This README file contains the most recent information about the IBM Subsystem Device Driver, Version 1 Release 3 Modification 3 Level 6 (SDD 1.3.3.6) for AIX. IBM recommends that you print and review the contents of this README file and the Subsystem Device Diver User’s Guide before installing and using SDD. You can find the most current documentation and support information on the Web site: www.ibm.com/storage/support/techsup/swtechsup.nsf/support/sddupdates/ 1.1 Who should read this README file This README file is intended for storage administrators, system programmers, and performance and capacity analysts. The information in this file only applies to customers who run ESS. 1.2 How to get help 1. Go to the following Web site for SDD technical support: ssddom01.storage.ibm.com/techsup/swtechsup.nsf/support/sddsupport/ 2. Go to the following Web site for the most current SDD documentation and support information: www.ibm.com/storage/support/techsup/swtechsup.nsf/support/sddupdates/ 1.3 Go to the following Web site for the IBM ESS Open Systems support: www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/products/ess/supserver.htm 1.4 Call one of the following numbers to obtain nontechnical or administrative support, such as hardware and software orders, hardware maintenance, services contract of entitlement, and invoices: .For commercial or state and local support operations: 1-877-426-6006 (Listen to the voice prompts) .For business partner support operations: 1-800-426-9990 .For federal government support operations: 1-800-333-6705 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 SDD defects and fixes The following table lists the defects that are corrected in this release. Note: The defect numbers listed in the table are for IBM internal reference use only. ================================================================ Description ================================================================ You should always check the following web page for the latest information about AIX SDD, especially the information displayed when you click Flashes under the Information heading: http://ssddom02.storage.ibm.com/techsup/webnav.nsf/support/sdd SDD 1.3.3.6 does not support HACMP under AIX 5.2.0. The following row entry needs to be added to Table 5, AIX required fixes: AIX level PTF number Component name Component level 5.1.G U484105 sysxlvm (bos.rte.lvm) 5.1.0.50 73126 HACMP customers will have to manually stop the sddsrv daemon if there is a risk of a node fallover with broken paths. Fixes should be applied. See details below. 75688 Users changing storage side switch ports or Shark port physical connections must unconfigure and reconfigure ESS and SDD vpath devices. 76957 SDD does not support dump device. Users should not configure an SDD vpath device as a second dump device. 77741 Running sddsrv with s0 flag will not provide path health check or path reclamation functions. 80336 SDD 1.3.2.9 or later allows vpaths to be configured using ESS Model 800 LUNs. This is in addition to supporting LUNs from ESS Models Exx and Fxx. 2.1 Details The following section provides additional information, as applicable, about the defects and fixes listed previously. ================================================================ Details ================================================================ 73126 During the HACMP fallover process, the following problem can occur: the node fallover time took longer to complete when running with broken paths if the SDD server daemon was running in the background. This problem is caused by the current locking design in AIX Fibre Channel driver. HACMP provides PTFs to work around this problem. The following fixes should be applied to all HACMP cluster nodes: HACMP version APAR HACMP v4.4.1 IY36443 HACMP v4.5 IY35382 If these fixes are not applied and there is any risk of a node failover with broken paths, then the sddsrv daemon should be stopped. If the sddsrv was stopped, you will need to re-enable sddsrv on your system after the HACMP APARs have been applied. Also, you will need to add a line in the system /etc/inittab file (or remove the comment notation from the existing line in the system /etc/inittab file) to automatically start sddsrv after the system is rebooted. Please refer the SDD User's Guide for the information on how to stop and start the SDD server daemon on the system. If the SDD server daemon is stopped, the feature to automatically recover failed paths (DEAD or CLOSE_DEAD path) is disabled. The user needs to manually recover the broken paths. If you are running StorWatch, disabling sddsrv will cause StorWatch to fail. To prevent this failure, you can replace the current version of sddsrv with a standalone version of sddsrv: 1. Type stopsrc -s sddsrv to stop the current version of sddsrv. 2. Verify that the SDD server has stopped. See Verifying if the SDD server has started on page 26. The status should be inoperative. 3. Comment out following line: srv:2:wait:/usr/bin/startsrc -s sddsrv > /dev/null 2>&1 in the system /etc/inittab table. 4. Add following line: srv:2:wait:/usr/bin/startsrc -a s0 -s sddsrv > /dev/null 2>&1 to the system /etc/inittab table. 5. Type startsrc -a s0 -s sddsrv to start a standalone version of sddsrv. Starting the sddsrv daemon with the s0 flag does not provide path health check or path reclamation functions. It is the user's responsibility to manually recover paths by using the datapath command. 75688 If the user changes the Fibre Channel cable connection from one storage side switch port to another storage side switch port, or changes the Fibre Channel cable connections from one Shark port to another Shark port (assume both ports are assigned the same set of Shark LUNs), the user must unconfigure and reconfigure ESS devices and then unconfigure and reconfigure SDD vpath devices in order to successfully access the LUNs. If the user does not unconfigure and then reconfigure ESS devices and SDD vpath devices, the I/O to these devices with the changed physical connections will fail. With AIX 52B & later, the AIX Fibre Channel driver will support a new feature of Dynamic Device Tracking that supports dynamically changing Fibre Channel cable connections on switch ports at the storage side. When this feature is available, then the unconfigure/reconfigure action will not be required. 78256 Use the following procedure to place manually-excluded Shark devices back in the SDD configuration: 1. If the excluded Shark devices belongs to a active volume group and there are file systems of that volume group that are mounted, then you need to do one of the following: a. umount all the file systems of the volume group and varyoff the volume group b. Or umount all the file systems of the volume group and use the reducevg command to reduce that device from the volume group. 2. vi exclude file '/etc/vpexclude' to delete the line of logical device name from exclude file. 3. Run cfallvpath configure methods to configure these new Shark devices. 4. Run lsvpcfg to verify that these Shark devices are configured as SDD vpath devices. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.0 Support notice for AIX 4.2.1 The SDD-AIX 4.2.1 package (ibmSdd_421.rte) will not be enhanced after version 1.3.0.1. You will not receive future fixes for this package. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.0 User license agreement for IBM device drivers NOTICE: PLEASE READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE PROGRAM AND DOCUMENTATION.
