Introduction This document contains important information about version 1.3.0.3 of the Storwize V7000 Unified software. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Pre-Requisites Storwize V7000 Unified Upgrade Information Before installing this code level please check the following pre-requisites are met. Also please note the concurrent upgrade (upgrade with I/O running) restrictions at the following URL: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003906 Performance of the Storwize V7000 Unified will be degraded during the software upgrade process. IBM recommends you perform the upgrade at a time of lower overall I/O activity and when you do not expect significant spikes in the system workload. If you are performing a concurrent code upgrade, you must first ensure that all host paths are available and operating correctly. Check there are no unfixed events in the event log. Use normal service procedures to resolve any events before proceeding. Before upgrading the Storwize V7000 Unified, we recommend using the software upgrade test utility. Refer to the following URL for further information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S4000986 Please see the following web page for the full upgrade compatibility matrix. http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003918 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Further Documentation The latest version of all Storwize V7000 Unified documentation is available in the IBM Storwize V7000 Unified 1.3.0 Information Center: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/storwize/unified_ic/index.jsp Selected documents are available for download in PDF format from the support website: http://www.ibm.com/storage/support/storwize/V7000/unified ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Known Issues and Restrictions in this Level If Storwize V7000 Unified is configured for authentication with Microsoft Active Directory, then usage of SCP protocol for file I/O access is currently not supported. This restriction will be removed in a future release of Storwize V7000 Unified software. In Storwize V7000 Unified, if the file system is configured for Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM managed), then replacing/exchanging of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) server, if done incorrectly, may lead to data loss. If multiple replications of different filesystems on the same source are run and stop simultaneously, an issue can be encountered where the system will record one or more of the replications as still running. These replication tasks cannot be cleared from the system. If this occurs, the GUI can no longer be used to manage running tasks and all future CLI calls to stoprepl (the command issued to stop a running replication) will require the -l parameter to be passed with the id of the running replication. This parameter is usually optional but is required to differentiate the running replication from the entry left from the previously failed task. It is recommended to either: - Never perform more than one replication from file systems on the same source. There is no issue to concurrent bi-directional replications - Ensure that there is a space of at least one minute between any calls to startrepl (the command used to start a replication), including calls made by any scheduled tasks. An issue has been identified where Microsoft Office 2007/2010 on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 clients fail to save files to IBM Storwize V7000 Unified shares. For more details please refer to the V1.3.0 Configuration Limits and Restrictions for IBM Storwize V7000 Unified for product restrictions that currently apply: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003906 Important: Volumes involved in Global Mirror with Change Volumes relationships may not be used in separate FlashCopy maps other than those used to establish relationships between master/auxiliary and Change Volumes. This restriction applies to all Global Mirror with Change Volumes master and auxiliary Volumes. Global Mirror Relationships Must Be Stopped Before Reading From Auxiliary Change Volumes Refer to the following technote for more information on this restriction: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003947 Intra-Cluster Global Mirror Not Supported With Storwize V7000 (2076) V6.x Code Refer to the following flash for more information on this restriction: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1003725 Use of a standards-compliant browser, such as Firefox, is recommended for using the Storwize V7000 Unified Management GUI. Use of Internet Explorer is supported but may result in slower performance of the GUI. Internet Explorer 8 and above is supported. Once the software upgrade process has been started, the management GUI automatically refreshes to display the progress of the upgrade. During the upgrade each file module will be restarted, resulting in a fail-over and fail-back of the management services, including the GUI. After a fail-over has occurred it may be necessary to manually refresh/reload the page in the web browser in order to reconnect with the new active management node and login again. Once the software upgrade has completed for the Storwize V7000 block storage, the new software will check the version of firmware on all components in the Storwize V7000 control enclosure and any expansion enclosures, excluding drives. If any upgrades are needed then the system will automatically perform these upgrades. NOTE: If the Power Supply Unit (PSU) firmware needs to be upgraded, then the fans on that enclosure will run at full speed for a short time and all LEDs on the PSU will flash. This is normal and can be ignored. If the fans are running at full speed without the LEDs flashing, or if the system stays in the fan full state on the same power supply unit then this may indicate a hardware fault. If a Storwize V7000 Unified Code Upgrade Stalls or Fails then Contact IBM Support for Further Assistance http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1002894 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.
