Do not attempt to apply it to any other IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager level. This PTF also applies PTF1 fixes for version 1.2.0. To determine the release level, see "Checking the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager release level" under 1.8, "CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION". 1.2.1 AIX Fixes Required If you have a managed host that is running AIX 5.1 or AIX 5.2, you must apply these AIX fixes before installing the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager PTF. * APAR IY43777 (PTF U487668 for AIX 5.1) * APAR IY44288 (PTF U486455 for AIX 5.2) You can download these fixes from the following Web site: https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/aix.fdc 1.2.2 DB2 Fixes Required To resolve the problem with CMVC reference 9440 and 10125 (see below), install DB2 FixPak 9. Follow these links to install the DB2 FixPaks: For AIX: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/db2/fixes/english-us/ db2aixv7/FP9_U486937/ For Windows: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/db2/fixes/english-us/ db2winv7/FP9_WR21320/ After you apply DB2 FixPak 9 on the manager machine, then install PTF2 on the manager and remote console. After you have installed PTF2, copy the db2java.zip file to the manager and remote console. You must copy this file twice to the manager and remote console. Copy the file once as a zip file and then as a jar file. 1.2.2.1 Windows For the Windows manager, db2java.zip is found in the following default directory: c:\Program Files\SQLLIB\java12\ Copy db2java.zip twice to the Windows manager. Copy this file once as a zip file and then as a jar file in the following directory: \apps\was\installedApps\DefaultNode\itsanm.ear\ manager.war\WEB-INF\lib For example, you will have two copy commands: copy \java12\db2java.zip c:\\ db2java.zip copy \java12\db2java.zip c:\\ db2java.jar is where DB2 is installed. is where WebSphere is installed. Note that the file extension has been changed to "jar" in the second copy command. In the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager WebSphere install directory, you will have a db2java.zip file and a db2java.jar file. Copy db2java.zip twice to the remote console. Copy this file once as a zip file and then as a jar file in the following directory: c:\\lib is where the remote console is installed. For example: c:\tivoli\itsanm\console\lib For example, you will have two copy commands: copy \java12\db2java.zip c:\\ lib\db2java.zip copy \java12\db2java.zip c:\\ lib\db2java.jar Note that the file extension has been changed to "jar" in the second copy command. In the remote console directory, you will have a db2java.zip file and a db2java.jar file. You do not need to unzip the files. 1.2.2.2 AIX The db2java.zip file is found in this default directory: /usr/lpp/db2_07_01/java12/ Copy db2java.zip twice to the AIX manager. Copy this file once as a zip file and then as a jar file to the following directory: /apps/was/installedApps/DefaultNode/itsanm.ear/ manager.war/WEB-INF/lib Copy db2java.zip twice from the manager machine to the remote console. Copy this file once as a zip file and then as a jar file to the following directory: c:\\lib is where the remote console is installed. For example: c:\tivoli\itsanm\console\lib In the remote console directory, you will have a db2java.zip file and a db2java.jar file. You do not need to unzip the files. 1.2.3 APARs Fixed This PTF fixes the following APARs: IC36584 A discovery was being initiated every 30 seconds. The Brocade API scanners were taking more than 30 seconds to complete. Eventually, the system ran out of memory. IC36666 When zoning changes occur, all of the symbols in a SAN are removed and then repopulated to reflect the changes. 1.3 LIMITATIONS IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager may lose contact with Fibre Channel switches in situations where the switches are processing large numbers of zone or topology changes. IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager will identify the switch as broken, change the switch icon to red, and send events to system management applications indicating the state change. Once the switches have processed the fabric changes, IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager will reestablish contact with the switches and change the switch state back to normal. 1.4 KNOWN PROBLEMS THAT ARE FIXED IN PTF2 This PTF fixes the following CMVC references. CMVC is an internal database repository. 9231 The Brocade API scanner causes application exceptions. 9511 If you have configured IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager to forward TEC events and the TEC server is unable to be contacted (for example the TEC server is down or behind a firewall, and so forth), a queueing of these events will take place which may cause IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager to reach its memory limit. To ensure that this situation does not occur, verify that the TEC server is up and running and is able to receive TEC events from IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager. 9594 IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager may experience slowed performance when you have a large number of LUNs accessible by managed host systems (systems running the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager in-band agents). The slowed performance will occur if the LUNs are no longer accessible to the host or hosts because of: * A configuration change * A connection or switch failure * A failure in the device containing the LUNs This condition does not occur when using only out-band agents. 9711 The database file size for several DB2 tables keeps growing. For information about how to check the size of DB2 files and how to reclaim DB2 space, see "Get database configuration information" under 1.8, "CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION". 9965 The SAN menu panels such as SAN Properties, Configure Manager, and Configure Agents cannot be opened. 10016 There are two problems noted: * There are exceptions in the log when EDFI is enabled. * NullPointerExceptions messages are posted to the SystemErr.log file if the manager is restarted. 1.5 KNOWN PROBLEMS THAT ARE FIXED IN PTF1 This PTF fixes the following CMVC references. CMVC is an internal database repository. 7616 The AIX agent causes a system crash when the FC port is disabled and enabled. This has been fixed with AIX PTFs. See 1.2.1, "AIX Fixes Required". 8332 Multiple scanner processes were created for the AIX agent when the port is disabled and enabled. 8426 After rebooting several switches in a fabric, one device was incorrectly reported as missing by a Windows 2000 agent. 8427 While completing the process of rebooting or shutting down the switches, the outband discovery results take about 15-25 minutes before NetView is completely updated. 8784 After disabling and enabling ports on a switch, Tivoli NetView is grayed out. The topology screen is not present. User is unable to select any options or views and file exit is not selectable. 8869 An iSCSI.seed file has been added to the product. 8949 When a ProFibre subsystem is connected to a SAN and an agent is added to the SAN, the subsystem serial number is displayed incorrectly within the SAN properties. 8992 The Configure manager window freezes after doing a clear history. 9025 The Linux agent does not display the ESS device when configuring file systems using Logical Volume Manager for Linux. 9056 The SAN icon stays blue for an extended period when the port is disabled and enabled. 9126 The ITSANMDB database keeps growing rapidly. For more information, see "Configuring the DB2 database" on page 177 of the Planning and Installation Guide. 9140 This message has been removed from the message log: 2003.04.11 14:27:17.906 ERROR No LUNID found in the database for LUNALIASID = S1d4.5c.bb.21.a0.16.11.d6.8f.d1.00.02.55.21. 0f.5e7090 2200002037DD0000LUN11 com.tivoli.sanmgmt.tsanm. discoverengine.EventsSQLHelper getLunFromLunaliasParameters ChangeMonitor 9165 Changes made on the Set Event Destination panel to disable TEC events or to specify a different TEC server location or port will not take affect until the manager has been stopped and restarted. 9166 The UNIX agents produce excessive port logins on the SAN. 9170 Starting or stopping the discovery component for the manager results in TEC events or SNMP traps not getting generated. 9193 The NVDAEMON has been converted to use the OVw API instead of the NVOT API for performance. 9211 The TRAPFRWD daemon crashes when a large number of SNMP traps arrive in a short period of time. Unable to see changes in the SAN through outband discovery when this happens. 9220 The NVDAEMON fails because it checks for arguments. 9224 After a managed host is added, the NetView topology is not refreshed properly. 9229 Multiple database connections cause a lock and wait state. 9263 There are extra characters in the Hardware Version stanza. This is dependent on specific versions of the QLogic device driver used. Newer device drivers do not have this problem. 9265 The primary switch fails when using the EDFI Configuration for Brocade hard zoning and shared ESS ports (LUN masking). The primary switch is powered off but still appears in the normal state in the SAN Manager. 9266 When an EDFI Configuration for Brocade hard zoning and shared ESS ports (LUN masking) is set up, and a fiber is disconnected on a port for a switch, the port should be displayed as missing (the connection is displayed as normal). 9267 The scanner currently does not report Bridge for an RNID type. This will be added. 9268 The mapping messages written to the servrun_log.txt file by mapper.java are not time stamped when running a remote console. 9271 A disabled switch fails when using an EDFI Configuration for Brocade hard zoning. The inband agents are turned off and only the outband agents are communicating with the SAN Manager. After the switch is disabled, the topology view showed a link between two FAStT devices (the topology should have shown a red link between the switches). 9303 Enables EDFI. To enable EDFI, see page 108 of the Planning and Installation Guide. 9305 Extra connections are shown on the NetView console. This does not agree with the database contents. 1.6 KNOWN PROBLEMS THAT ARE NOT FIXED IN THIS PTF This PTF does not fix the following CMVC references. CMVC is an internal database repository. 5389 Unassigned LUNs for a FAStT subsystem may show up as indistinguishable. This is denoted by a small question mark on the LUN icon in the device-centric view. This means that the LUNs did not provide unique identification information for IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager to use. Therefore, the LUNs displayed may not all represent unique LUNs. 7408 The Launch Application option shows as available when there is no management application information specified for the device. 8716 This defect occurs when you drill down the maps of Tivoli NetView while certain submaps are being deleted. This results in Tivoli NetView suddenly closing. When Tivoli NetView is reopened, the SAN that was being drilled into is now blue and nothing is visible within the SAN. The blue SAN remains despite performing multiple clicks on "Poll Now" and "Clear History". 8805 The LANMAN option is not available in the drop-down box in the Other tab like the documentation describes. This information is described under "An alternate starting technique" in Chapter 4 of the User's Guide. 8914 The IBM WebSphere Application Server V5 - ITSANM-Manager service terminates with the following error message: Cannot create another system semaphore. This occurs when trying to restart the ITSANM-Manager service after stopping. You will usually get an unsuccessful shutdown error message. You can usually restart by waiting a while. 9068 The topology displays links from switches to devices that do not exist on an Inter Switch Link (ISL) after a port is disabled and enabled. Do a Clear History to resolve this problem. 9106 The NetView topology view displays blue icons in the submap stack that do not contain topology information when opened. For more information, see page 76 of the User's Guide. 9142 The contents within a loop icon gets displayed incorrectly in multiple ways. The same loop icon appears in multiple locations on the same topology. Each loop icon on the Windows 2000 manager appears in a green state. The AIX manager presents the loops in yellow and green states. 9340 The SAN is identified as all zeros. 9437 The TivGuid is not installed on a Windows NT managed host. The TivGuid is not installed if the system requirements have not been met. For example, service pack 3 has not been installed on the Windows system. No error message is displayed at installation time, but the remote console or managed hosts will not work correctly. You have to check the installation logs to determine that the Windows installer reports that it needs to be at a higher maintenance level to install the TivGuid. Upgrade to service pack 3, then reinstall the component. 9440 After a Clear History operation is performed, DB2 may terminate due to a known DB2 issue (APAR: IY38997). In this case, the following error messages are logged: 1. The Windows System Event viewer logs this message: The DB2 - DB2 service terminated unexpectedly. 2. The Windows Application Event viewer logs this message: An entry has been logged to the DB2 Diagnostic Log for instance DB2. To resolve this problem, install DB2 FixPak 9. See 1.2.2, "DB2 Fixes Required". 9528 Subsystem configuration changes causes IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager to display old LUN information (the LUNs that are no longer accessible are still listed) in the device-centric and host-centric views. One work around is: 1. Temporarily disable the LUNs presented to the host system. 2. Do a discovery. 3. Wait for the LUN information to be removed for the host-centric and device-centric views. 4. Perform a Clear History operation. 5. Re-enable the LUNs. 6. Do a re-discover operation. Another work around is: 1. Temporarily disable the agent on the host system. 2. Do a discovery. 3. Wait for the LUN information to be removed from the host-centric and device-centric views. 4. Perform a Clear History operation. 5. Re-enable the agent. 6. Do a re-discover operation. 9552 When doing a Clear History operation, some yellow connections between the host device and switch did not turn back to the color black. 9564 The SystemErr.log file logs java.lang.OutOfMemoryError messages when the manager is low on free disk space. Check to see if you are running out of space on the DB2 tables. For information about how to check the size of DB2 files and how to reclaim DB2 space, see "Get database configuration information" under 1.8, "CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION". 9565 The properties file has DEBUG_MAX set. This can affect performance. The properties file should have DEBUG_MIN set initially. To reset the properties file, follow these steps for the manager: 1. Shut down the manager. 2. Edit the following file: \manager\conf\nativelog.properties is where you installed the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager. 3. Replace all instances of the string "DEBUG_MAX" with the string "DEBUG_MIN". 4. Save the file. 5. Restart the manager. 9630 There is an incorrect topology displayed. Devices on one SAN will appear on another SAN. 1.7 INSTALLING THIS PTF 1.7.1 Installing the PTF on the manager, remote console, and managed hosts Follow the instructions for installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager in the Planning and Installation Guide. You must close the GUI before you install this PTF. There are some panels that will not display: for example, the panels that prompt you for user ID and password will not appear. When installing the manager, you will need to supply the WebSphere user ID and password for security purposes. 1.7.2 Installing the PTF on the AIX manager and AIX managed host To install the PTF on the manager or managed host, run this command from the directory where you have downloaded and extracted the PTF code: ./setup.aix -is:javahome /jre is where the product is installed (for example, /tivoli/itsanm/manager or /tivoli/itsanm/agent). An example of the command is: ./setup.aix -is:javahome /tivoli/itsanm/manager/jre or ./setup.aix -is:javahome /tivoli/itsanm/agent/jre 1.8 CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION Checking the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager release level To check for the release level of IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, edit the version.txt file in the installation directory. For example, on Windows go to the directories listed below. This is new for version 1.2.2. * c:\tivoli\itsanm\manager for the manager * c:\tivoli\itsanm\agent for the managed host * c:\tivoli\itsanm\console for the remote console On UNIX, go to the following directories: * /tivoli/itsanm/manager for the manager * /tivoli/itsanm/agent for the managed host * /tivoli/itsanm/console for the remote console An example of the file is shown below: ITSANM V1.2.1 Build SANM_1.2.1.08 20030522 Where V1.2.1 indicates the version, release, and modification level. Windows Terminal Services You cannot use Windows Terminal Services to access a machine that is running the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager console (either the manager or remote console machine). Any IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager dialogs launched from the SAN menu in Tivoli NetView will appear on the manager or remote console machine only. The dialogs will not appear in the Windows Terminal Services session. iSCSI MIBs To load the iSCSI MIBs and view the iSCSI MIBs in SmartSets, follow these steps: 1. Open the Tivoli NetView console icon and select: Tools -> WebConsole MIB Loader 2. The Tivoli NetView MIB Loader panel is displayed. Click Load. 3. Select the directory /usr/ov/snmp_mibs/iscsi files. The files are: * iscsi.1.mib * iscsi.4.mib * fc_mgmt.mib * isns.mib 4. The SmartSet icons appear as iSCSI3 (iSCSI router), iSCSI6 (iSCSI Adaptec initiator card) and iSCSI9 (for a JBOD device-you must have SNMP capabilities for this to appear). For more information about loading MIBs, see NetView for Windows User's Guide. Silent uninstallation When performing a silent uninstallation, use this command: uninstall -silent -G removeModifiedResponse="yesToAll" Copying the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager image to a directory When you are copying the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager image to a directory, make sure that the target directory does not have spaces or dashes in the directory name. Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager from the FTP site When you are installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager from the FTP site, the following directory in the installation image is set to hidden: \apps\was\win32-ix86\config\.repository Where is where you installed IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager. To correct this problem, right-click on this directory, and verify that the "Hidden" box is not checked. Then rerun the installation. Upgrading the Try and Buy product If you have installed the Try and Buy product and want to upgrade to the full version of IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, follow the directions for installing the product in the Planning and Installation Guide: * Chapter 5. Installing the Windows Manager * Chapter 6. Installing the AIX Manager Upgrading the Bonus Pack If you have installed the Bonus Pack for SAN Management and want to upgrade to the full version of IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, follow the directions for installing the product in the Planning and Installation Guide: * Chapter 5. Installing the Windows Manager * Chapter 6. Installing the AIX Manager Get database configuration information The performance of SQL statements that use indexes can be impaired after many updates, deletions, or insertions of data into the database. Generally, newly inserted rows cannot be placed in a physical sequence that is the same as the logical sequence defined by the index (unless you use clustered indexes). This means that the Database Manager must perform additional read operations to access the data, because logically sequential data may be on different physical data pages that are not sequential. This in turn causes the performance to deteriorate. Some data files in the DB2 database that IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager uses can grow significantly larger than any other data files. To determine if you need to reorganize your DB2 tables, follow this procedure: 1. Get database configuration information 2. Get a DB2 database report 3. Reclaim DB2 space and update statistics To get database configuration information, follow this procedure: 1. Start the DB2 environment. For Windows, enter the db2cmd command from a command prompt window. A new db2cmd window is displayed. For AIX, from a shell prompt, run the db2profile of your DB2 instance owner. For example, if your DB2 instance owner ID is db2inst1, run this command: $ .~/db2inst1/sqllib/db2profile 2. Issue the following command. This example uses the default database name of itsanmdb. If you use a different database name, enter your database name. db2 get db cfg for itsanmdb 3. A list of your database configuration is displayed. Look for the value "Path to log files". The following example shows where the database files are located which is SQL000xx. Path to log files =C:\DB2\NODE0000\SQL000xx\SQLOGDIR\ 4. Change the directory to C:\DB2\NODE0000\SQL000xx\ITSANM1. Look at the directory listing of the files. If you see some files which are significantly larger than the rest, then you should continue with the next procedure (see "Get a DB2 database report" and "Reclaim DB2 space and update statistics"). Get a DB2 database report To get a DB2 report, follow this procedure: 1. From the db2cmd window, connect to the database using the following command: db2 connect to user using For example, if your database name is itsanmdb, your DB2 administrator user ID is db2admin, and your DB2 administrator user password is db2adminpswd, this is the command to use: db2 connect to itsanmdb user db2admin using db2adminpswd 2. From the same db2cmd window, change the directory to \manager\apps\db2. is where IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager is installed. 3. Issue the following REORGCHK command. The REORGCHK command calculates statistics on the database to determine if tables need to be reorganized.: db2 -tvf reorgchk.sql Search for asterisks (*) in the REORG column of the report. This indicates that the table or index needs to be reorganized. For more information about how to read the output from the REORGCHK command, see REORGCHK command in IBM DB2 Universal Database Command Reference. For more information about reorganizing catalogs and tables, see "Reorganizing Catalogs and User Tables" in IBM DB2 Universal Database Administration Guide: Performance. Reclaim DB2 space and update statistics To reclaim DB2 space and update statistics, follow this procedure: 1. From the DB2 command window, issue the REORG command on the problem tables: db2 -tvf reorg.sql It may take time to reorganize large tables and indexes. Therefore, you should reorganize the tables when the system has low usage. You can edit the reorg.sql file and select only the problem tables. After the reorganization, the free space in fragmented data will be removed. The file size of the problem tables will be reduced. This can provide faster access to the data thereby improving performance. 2. Issue the RUNSTATS command on the problem tables: db2 -tvf runstats.sql You should issue the RUNSTATS command after you issue the REORG command. This will update the statistics for the IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager tables. You can edit the runstats.sql file and select the same set of the problem tables. It may take time to collect the statistics for a large table. The statistics from the RUNSTATS command can provide better information for better performance. Problems that have been corrected with documentation This PTF fixes the following CMVC references. CMVC is an internal database repository. 9274 A customized object icon is lost after a switch reboot. You should not manually change object properties of network objects by right-clicking on the icon and using NetView's Object Properties. This method does not persist the modified values in the SAN manager database during a Clear History process or when NetView is restarted. This is documented in the note under "Changing the label property for a symbol" on page 32 of the User's Guide. 9275 When you have two SANs with unique WWN names, and the principal switch of a fabric has either been powered off or has failed, you will see this problem. Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager reconfigures the remaining switches with a new SAN name, which is the WWN of a different switch that has become the principal switch. The first SAN displays in yellow because it contains both red and green switch segments. The green switch segments reconfigure to form a new fabric. The new SAN displays the reconfigured switches, but the old SAN still references them. You must perform a Clear History to remove the old SAN from the topology view and have only the newly configured SAN. See page 76 of the User's Guide for more information. 9277 Need more information on interpreting device status and the possible causes. See page 4 "Discovery" and page 79 "Interpreting device status" in the User's Guide. 9282 and 9283 Need more information on zone views. For example, a node object can represent multiple ports and the icons displayed in the zone view are at the node level and not the port level. See page 25 under "Zone View" in the User's Guide. 10125 The remote console fails to communicate with the manager machine. Copy the db2java.zip file to the remote console. See 1.2.2, "DB2 Fixes Required". 1.9 OTHER SOURCES OF INFORMATION The following table lists IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager publications. +----------------------------------------------------+----------------+ | Publication Title | Order Number | +----------------------------------------------------+----------------+ | IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager User's | SC23-4698 | | Guide | | +----------------------------------------------------+----------------+ | IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Planning | SC23-4697 | | and Installation Guide | | +----------------------------------------------------+----------------+ | IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Messages | SC32-0953 | +----------------------------------------------------+----------------+ The publications are also available from the Tivoli publications Web site: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/tividd/td/StorageAreaNetworkManager1.2.html 1.10 NOTICES This information was developed for products and services offered in the U.S.A.
