For version 1.3.1, this default has been changed to perform a topology scan only. * When IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager installs Tivoli NetView, it automatically installs the NetView Fix Pack 2. This is done automatically during the installation or upgrade process. For information on installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, see IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Planning and Installation Guide. * You can upgrade IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager version 1.2 or 1.3 to version 1.3.1. You cannot upgrade IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager from version 1.1. The version 1.3.1 manager can communicate with a version 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 agent. However, the remote console must be at the same level as the manager (both must be version 1.3.1). When installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, you must install the manager before you install the agents. * If you upgrade DB2 version 7.2 to DB2 version 8.1, or if you install DB2 version 8.1 as your database, you must copy the db2java.zip file from the manager to the remote console directory. See Appendix C in IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Planning and Installation Guide. * In version 1.3.0, IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager supported a DB2 user ID with a maximum of 8 characters. This user ID can now be a maximum of 255 characters. * IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager now supports the IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller Storage Software for Cisco MDS 9000. For information on how to use this support, see this Web site: http://www.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/ IBMTivoliStorageAreaNetworkManager.html Select Technotes. Then select IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager Technical Note for Version 1.3.1. This document assumes that you have some knowledge of the IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller Storage Software for Cisco MDS 9000 and have correctly installed and configured this support. * If you have an AIX manager that is using a Brocade switch, you must install AIX patches to support the Brocade API 3.0. This patch must be downloaded on the manager machine. IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager version 1.3.0 supported Brocade API 2.0 for AIX. For information about the AIX patches, see 3.3, "Installing the AIX patches". 3.2 AIX Fixes Required If you have a manager or managed host that is running AIX(R) 5.1 or AIX 5.2, you must apply AIX fixes before installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager. For more information, see Chapter 2 in the Planning and Installation Guide. 3.3 Installing the AIX patches If you have an AIX manager that is using a Brocade switch, you must install AIX patches to support the Brocade API 3.0. This patch must be downloaded on the manager machine. In release 1.3.0, the Brocade API 2.0 was supported for AIX. For AIX 5.1, the patch is U489619 - bos.net.tcp.client.5.1.0.55. For AIX 5.2, the patch is U488847 - bos.net.tcp.client.5.2.0.13. You can download the package from the following Web site: http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/aix.fdc Then do the following: 1. Under the heading OS level, select AIX 5.1 or AIX 5.2. 2. Under the heading Search by, select Fileset or PTF number. 3. Under the heading Search string, enter U489619 or U488847. 4. Click Find fix. 5. Select the fix and click Add to list. 6. When you have all the fixes you need listed, click Proceed to packaging and follow the instructions on the window to download the package. 3.4 DB2 FixPaks Required If you are using DB2(R) version 7.2 as your database, you must install DB2 FixPak 10a. For information on installing this FixPak, see the Planning and Installation Guide. If you are using DB2 version 8.1 as your database, you must install DB2 FixPak 4a or greater. For information on installing this FixPak, see: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/udb/winos2unix/support 3.5 Known Limitations ===================== Check the following Web site for IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager limitations: http://www.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/ IBMTivoliStorageAreaNetworkManager.html Check Hints and Tips and Technotes. Some limitations to note are: * Switches that are being managed out-of-band such as SNMP agents should be configured to use the SNMP V1 protocol. Some switches use SNMP V2 or V3 by default and must be reconfigured before they can work correctly with IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager. Refer to the switch vendor documentation for specific configuration details. * If you are using a McData switch, the domain ID displayed by Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager has a different value from the one displayed by McData's management application. Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager displays the domain ID on the Properties dialog for a selected switch or on the Zone dialog for zone control. The reason for this difference for the domain ID is because Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager's API call to the McData switch has some additional encoded information in the higher-order bits. For example, a McData switch with the domain ID of 1 (as displayed on McData's management application) is displayed as 97 (hexadecimal 61 where the 6 represents the higher order encoding information). 3.6 Known Issues 12890 The srmcp ConfigService setSinglePw command to reset the DB2, authentication, and WebSphere passwords as described in the User's Guide only applies to the manager. To reset the authentication password for the remote console or managed host, use this command: srmcp -u -p ConfigService setAuthenticationPw 13132 Silent uninstallation of the agent stayed in a hung state. All the agent services are down but the tcstop command is still running. To work around this problem, stop the command and restart the system. 13134 A unique token ID is required for zoning control sessions which is generated by the database. There is a limit to the number of IDs which the database can generate. If you have performed enough zoning operations to reach this limit, the database will not be able to create any new IDs, so no additional zoning operations can be performed (on the switches). You will see exceptions in the log files (for example traceITSANM.log and db2diag.log) to indicate this condition. To work around this problem, you must drop and recreate the tables that have errors. 13189 You see these null pointer exceptions in the msgITSANM.log: 2004.03.31 08:26:36.047-08:00 BTACE0037E An error occurred during the process of forwarding an SNMP trap or sending a Tivoli Enterprise Console event. com.tivoli.sanmgmt.event. TopicHandler.run (TopicHandler.java:262) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:513) com.tivoli. sanmgmt.event.SANEventMessageHandler onMessage You will not be able to filter out SNMP traps for certain types of start up events. 13301 If you are installing IBM Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager (manager component), and you enter the DB2 administrator user ID and password and receive this error message: username and/or password supplied is incorrect. This error message may not reflect the exact cause of the error. If your DB2 services are running properly, your password is probably incorrect. In this case, the error message reflects the exact cause of the error. If your password is correct, and DB2 is not running properly, you might have another problem with DB2. For example, you might have an invalid license. Look at the DB2 logs to determine the probable cause of the error. 13606 and 13653 If you open the Zone Notebook, you might receive the message "Unable to contact agent." This occurs because of an invalid token or the agent is busy with another zoning request. The zoning configuration buttons will be disabled until an agent is available. There will be no indication to the user that the panel is continuing to attempt to contact an agent and the error message will not be displayed again. As long as the agent is unavailable, the buttons will be disabled. Once the agent is available, the buttons will be enabled. 13870 The storage volumes which are configured as dynamic disks on a Windows managed host will not be displayed under the host-centric view for that managed host. The problem only occurs with dynamic disks and does not affect local disks or storage volumes configured as basic disks. 4.0 Documentation and Additional Information ============================================ 4.1 Messages The following messages have been changed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BTASD1856W Connection to the IBM Tivoli NetView daemon is down.
