Functions of the IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool - Graphical Edition (ITDT-GE) are:
- run quick or extended diagnostics on tape drives
- retrieve dumps from tape drives or tape libraries
- perform a firmware update on tape drives or tape libraries
- test the performance of the environment by completely writing a cartridge and measuring performance
- verify tape drive compression
- measure the system performance
- retrieve and display cartridge usage information
- view the content of dumps and ITDT generated log files, the BLOB files (binary large object files)
- integrate the interactive functionality of the Tapeutil application to provide a single diagnostics application for the user
- configure devices such as the LTO-5 drive (and higher) ethernet port
- run a diagnostic self-test for the tape library robotics
Testing tape drives inside tape libraries is supported.
