Installation Instructions ============================= To install the IBM VisualAge C++ V6.0 for Linux Run-Time Environment component, complete the following steps: 1. Download, unzip (with gunzip), and untar the rpm packages. example: $ gunzip vacpp.rte.60.sles8.dec2004.tar.gz $ tar -xvf vacpp.rte.60.sles8.dec2004.tar 2. You must uninstall any previous versions of the rpms already installed on your system. Do not uninstall rpms that you are not upgrading. To uninstall an rpm package, use the following command: rpm -e You must uninstall rpm packages in the following order: rpm -e vacpp.rte-6.0.x-x rpm -e xlsmp.msg.rte-1.3.x-x rpm -e xlsmp.rte-1.3.x-x where: x refers to the level of the rpm package installed on your system. To determine the level, use the following command: rpm -q vacpp.cmp In cases where an rpm package is required by other installed packages, as occurs if you have XL Fortran V8.1 for Linux installed on the same system, the package may not uninstall. To upgrade a shared package, specify the -nodeps option with your rmp command. For example: $ rpm -e --nodeps vacpp.rte.6.0.1-2 3.
