APAR IY09941 on 4.3.2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Description ----------- This directory contains a fix for APAR IY09941 specially built to be installed on AIX 4.3.2 systems. WARNING: This update is not offically part of the service stream for AIX 4.3. AIX is supported on a version and release basis. The AIX maintenance strategy does not allow maintenance levels within a version and release of AIX to be supported separately. For example, AIX 4.2 is supported separately from AIX 4.3, but AIX 4.3.2 cannot be supported separately from AIX 4.3.3. The reason for this is that he AIX installation architecture assumes that every fileset update includes all fixes in previous updates to the same fileset. The official fix for APAR IY09941 was first released in the 4.3.3.15 levels of the bos.mp and bos.up filesets. This special 4.3.2 fix consists of the 4.3.2.17 levels of bos.mp and bos.up. If any level of bos.mp or bos.up between 4.3.2.17 and 4.3.3.15 is installed after this special 4.3.2 fix is installed, the fix for APAR IY09941 will be removed even though the 'instfix' command will still indicate it is installed. For this reason, this special 4.3.2 fix for APAR IY09941 is not being made available through the normal IBM fix distribution channels. It is only being provided at this FTP site as an emergency fix for those customers that do not feel that they can immediately install the official fix for IY09941. IBM recommends that rather than installing this special 4.3.2 fix, that you update your system to AIX 4.3.3, and then install the fix for IY09941 available from the AIX Fix Distribution Service at the following URL. http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/rs6k/fixes.html It is not necessary that you first update your AIX 4.3 system to the 4.3.3 maintenance level before installing the official fix for APAR IY09941. However, updating to the 4.3.3 maintenance level is recommended, since it bas been extensively tested as a unit. Installing just the official fix for APAR IY09941 without first updating to the 4.3.3 maintenance level will not update your AIX 4.3 system to the 4.3.3 level. The 'oslevel' command will still indicate the previous maintenance level, although some filesets will be updated to the 4.3.3.x level.
